Many residents in Los Altos know Harry Price and how successfully he negotiates residential and commercial real estate. Not everyone knows his favorite summer drink.  For my monthly recipe series, I dropped into Harry's office to ask him about a favorite food memory.   He did not hesitate and immediately recalled the summer afternoons where he hung out with his friends in his backyard sipping gazpacho before an early dinner.
 
While I was there I could not help but ask him a little bit about his work. Harry's illustrious career is deeply rooted in his understanding not just of the law but his understanding of effective communication.  He explained the real estate soup in very simple terms.   "A large part of my practice is devoted to conflict resolution and about the feeling of being treated justly. There are, of course, many causes of conflicts between individuals."  Problems in communication between parties is often cited as a major cause.
 
"In my experience, it often boils down to something even more basic: whether or not an individual believes that they have been treated fairly.  When it comes to civil litigation, it often boils down to the ebb and flow of relationships."
 
Unfortunately things can get worse the longer the communication gap is neglected. When the root cause of conflict is dealt with by avoidance, problems linger and grow. Addressing the conflict, either directly by the individuals, or with the use of third parties, has an objective that often results in coming full circle with the cause of the conflict: how best to achieve a fair resolution? That is not always an easy task, which also explains why we have a court system in place: to impose a resolution through a civil judgment, when the parties themselves are unable to resolve matters on their own.
 
Armed with a fresh understanding of what makes Harry Price so famous in Los Altos, I also left with a great recipe for gazpacho that I hope you will try out with me.


 

Appetizer

GAZPACHO

Ingredients:
 
3 large ripe tomatoes
1/2 peeled large cucumber
1/2 red onion
1/2 large green pepper
4 oz. Campbell Tomato juice
   (or you can use V-8)
20 oz. Campbell Tomato juice
   (or you can use V-8)
1/3 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp Tabasco (+ 4-5 more drops)
3 minced garlic cloves
   (or 3 tsp. chopped garlic)

 
Instructions:
Liquify in Blender (ingredients in first column):
3 large ripe tomatoes
1/2 peeled large cucumber
1/2 red onion
1/2 large green pepper
4 oz. Campbell Tomato juice (or you can use V-8)
 
Pour into bowl and add (ingredients in second column):
20 oz. tomato juice
1/3 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp Tabasco
3 minced garlic cloves (or 3 tsp. chopped garlic)
 
Dice remaining vegetables for garnish:
  Balance of cucumber, onion & green pepper (can also add tomatoes and croutons!)
 
Refrigerate Gazpacho
Stir Gazpacho thoroughly before serving and add garnish

            Obviously this recipe is not from scratch – OH WELL.  It’s easy and delicious!  I usually double or triple it.  It can feed an army!  It keeps beautifully for days, just really stir or shake it before you transfer it to a serving bowl.  If you make it the same day you want to serve it, let it refrigerate for six hours to give the garlic and other ingredients time to really meld together.  Plus, you want it really chilled!  Enjoy!
