May Government Affairs - Downtown Infrastructure Improvement Projects
Join us at the upcoming Government Affairs Meeting for updates on several key infrastructure projects impacting the downtown area. Presentations will be given by Anthony Carnesecca, Assistant to the City Manager, and Steven Son from the Public Works Department.City Maintenance Staff will begin preliminary crack sealing along Main and State Streets from April 22 through May 9, Tuesdays through Fridays from 6–8 AM, to prepare for future micro resurfacing and prevent crack expansion.
Cal Water will also begin a major water main replacement project starting May 1 through September 12, working weekdays from 7 AM to 6 PM. This project will upgrade water mains behind downtown buildings near Parking Plazas 4–10, 1st Street, and Edith Avenue, with minimal water disruptions expected.
Later this summer, the City will oversee a three-week micro resurfacing project along Main and State Streets to repair failed road sections, apply new asphalt, and restripe for improved visibility. Individual blocks will be temporarily closed for about a day during this work.
Looking ahead to Spring/Summer 2026, the City will repave Parking Plazas 4, 5, and 6 to improve drainage and pedestrian safety. Each plaza will be temporarily closed during its respective construction period, with more details to come.
The Los Altos Chamber Government Affairs Committee studies, analyzes & formulates positions on issues affecting the Los Altos business community, makes recommendations to the Board of Directors on public policy positions, monitors government actions & communicates chamber positions to appropriate officials to encourage positive actions, attends city council or commission meetings and expresses chamber opinions.
